The Origin of my Chosen Name and my Real Name

I believe that telling your real name and the origins of your chosen name should be a choice, instead of forced out.

So, I’m really comfortable with telling you this information.

Weird, aren’t I?

But, my original name is Shelby Healey Mingo. My first name came from an independent filmmaker (or so my mother’s first girlfriend tells me. I’ll believe her, since she’s been there since I was born, well…until I was about fifteen or sixteen) and my middle name came from Jeff Healey, a Canadian musician who was blind and played the guitar in his lap. He was very popular in the 80’s.

I wasn’t very happy with the name. I knew it was unisex, and it was a mixture of unique and normal, but I just didn’t like it.

One day, my mother was interested in a show called The L Word. If you don’t know this show, it is a show that used to come on Cinemax and it followed the lives of these friends, who were lesbians. It was really interesting to me, and I really liked it. I was probably about…12 or 13 then, I’m not so sure.

There was one character I really admired, and I thought she was so beautiful. Her name was Shane. I wanted to be just like her because she just spoke to me.

So, that’s how I got my name, Shane.

I prefer if you call me that, but I’m fine with Neko (hence the url name).

My last name varies with my chosen name. Currently, I’m using LeRoux. I also go with Mimimeux. Sometimes I’ll go to Devaroux.

But, if you’re asking if Shane is my real name, I’ll tell you that it’s not, only because you asked, and I’ll be honest with you. I’m comfortable if you ask me that sort of stuff, so it’s okay.

I’ll also tell you this: Soon, Shane will be my real name, but because I’m struggling with my last name and gender, it’s causing it’s delay.
